How To Use Toothpicks

Many people have the habit of picking their teeth after meals. In fact, healthy teeth that are neatly arranged are generally not easy to get food stuck in them. Frequent use of bad toothpicks or improper use of toothpicks can damage teeth and gums, causing gum atrophy, exposed tooth roots, widening of tooth gaps, and oral bacterial infection. The wider the gaps between teeth, the easier it is for food residues to get stuck in them, forming a vicious cycle, that is, the saying "the more you pick your teeth, the thinner they are." So is it good to pick your teeth with toothpicks? We believe that as long as it is used correctly and at the right time, picking your teeth is beneficial and harmless.
Try not to pick your teeth in public. When you need to pick your teeth, you should prepare a piece of paper first, and then cover your mouth with your other hand. Don't watch or eat the things you pick out in public, don't flick them randomly, and don't spit them out randomly. Wrap them with the paper towels prepared before picking your teeth and throw them in the trash can or next to the dining table. After picking your teeth, don't hold the toothpick in your mouth, let alone use it to pick food.
Don't use too much force, and don't slide too fast.
The correct way to pick your teeth is to slowly place the toothpick along the tooth surface into the bottom of the gingival sulcus, and then gently push the food residue toward the tongue. The action must be gentle to avoid damaging the periodontal tissue. It is best to rinse your mouth 15 to 20 minutes after eating. When rinsing your mouth, after closing your mouth, use a certain amount of force to agitate your cheeks so that the mouthwash flows back and forth through the teeth to flush out the food residue and other attachments. If you encounter food residue embedded in the teeth that you really can't rinse out, you can use a toothbrush, or use a handkerchief or towel to press and pinch the area where the food is embedded and gently rub it to help the food residue leave the impacted area. This can not only promote the metabolism of teeth and related tissues, but also strengthen teeth and gums.
