As people's awareness of environmental protection continues to increase, starch toothpicks have begun to appear. Starch toothpicks generally use corn starch, sweet potato starch, mint preparations, Imperata root preparations, Angelica dahurica preparations, alum, sorbitol, water, and food coloring as raw materials. After heating the water to boiling point, mix it with the raw materials in proportion and place it in an extruder. After extruding into strips under high temperature and high pressure, spray and wash it with clean water at natural temperature. The strips after spraying and washing are placed in a freezing device, frozen at -21°C for 24 hours, taken out, and then sprayed and washed with clean water at natural temperature. Then, they are placed in a drying device and dried at 35-40°C for 24-30 hours, taken out, and cut into short segments of toothpick length. The cut short segments are ground with a grinder to obtain the finished product. The finished toothpick has the characteristics of hard texture, no bifurcation, and not easy to break. It also has the advantages of being soluble in water as food after use, not only does it not damage trees, but also does not pollute the environment, and has a health care effect on gums.
This kind of toothpick is moderately hard and non-toxic, and can "save" hundreds of thousands of acres of forests a year. During the two sessions, Park Huishan, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice president of the School of Medicine of Yanbian University, took out a few small white and transparent toothpicks and promoted the use of environmentally friendly toothpicks made of starch.
